IPA Welcomes SEC Step Toward Expanding Private Markets Access
The Institute for Portfolio Alternatives (IPA) welcomed a significant step by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last week toward modernizing investor access to private markets.
As reported by AltsWire, the SEC sent a proposed rule, “Enhancing Retail Exposure to Private Markets,” to the White House Office of Management and Budget for review. The proposal could expand retail investor exposure to private markets through registered investment companies while allowing investment advisers to charge performance fees to a broader set of clients.
“This is an encouraging step toward modernizing rules that have too often limited individual investors’ ability to build genuinely diversified portfolios,” said Anya Coverman, President and CEO of the IPA, in the AltsWire report. “The growth of private markets has fundamentally changed the investment landscape, but the regulatory framework governing access has not kept pace.”
The SEC is targeting October for a notice of proposed rulemaking. IPA will continue to follow the process closely and advocate for a regulatory framework that responsibly broadens access to private market investment opportunities.
